The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce welcomes another LBI focused business group to the barrier island. The new organization which has six mayors or municipal reps serving as part of the board will be needed to change the infrastructure for continued business success

 The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce wishes the new board of directors of the LBI Chamber, the best of luck and looks forward to the six municipalities working towards the betterment of the business community and meeting in a public forum which is going to allow the discussion of island wide concerns regarding visitor enhancements that will help the businesses thrive. Unified Beach Badges, Island wide public daytime transportation, clearer signage, beautification of the island gateway, public art/culture projects; have been all ongoing topics that can be addressed by this new organization since it has streamlined speaking with each municipality separately. Mar. 18, 2013 - How committed are the Long Beach Island Region Businesses to their customers? That question was answered this past fall after Super Storm Sandy hit the community. While rebuilding both personally and professionally, the business owners and staff went above and beyond to help not only the physical recovery, but the emotional one by extending a sense of comfort and place to neighbors that faced uncertainty. The We Are LBI effort was created by a team of Chamber members who wanted to invite local business, who make up such an important part of the community, into the spotlight. In addition to creating a dedicated website, WEARELBI.com, a marketing campaign has been launched to bring well deserved focus and revamped energy to Shop and Support local, a mantra which has always encompassed the area.

Marketing committee Chairman Jeremy DeFilippis states "I've only just joined the Board of the Chamber as of 2013 so it took a little time to figure things out.  It became clear that there was some negative perspective on the Chamber's post-Sandy efforts within our community so I set out improve that by forming a Marketing Committee and rolling out a plan.  Even with a small budget to start, we can reach our members, community and tourists by spreading our new campaign.  I'm really looking forward to rolling out the rest of our plan as well as to creating a mid-to-long-term plan.  Please check out our website, www.WeAreLbi.com, which features a wonderfully well done video and help us spread our message that the LBI Region is open for business and ready for Summer 2013!"

The Tenth Anniversary of St Francis Super Plunge will be celebrated next year on February 2, 2014. Start planning to be part of this tradition now!

 

Friends of Long Beach Island, the St Francis Community Center, Southern Regional Swim Team and the icy cold waters of February in the Atlantic Ocean have decided to take a pass this year and hold out for a Super Plunge for the ages in 2014. The popular winter event brings hundreds of plungers and spectators to the 48th Street Beach in Brant Beach every Super Bowl Sunday. The event was started by Brother Kevin along with swim coaches John Schultz and Billy Entriken to build support for the St Francis Community Center and the Southern Regional High School Swim Team.

In working with the Long Beach Township Beach Patrol, the "Plunge" brings many second home owners, residents, and cold weather enthusiasts to the beach at 1pm each Super Bowl Sunday for a winter fundraiser frolic. All are invited to the St Francis Community Center for coffee and snacks before returning to the excitement of the day. The excitement that NJ will be in the hub of the professional sports world is  starting to spread and the fact that next year's big game will be played at the Meadowlands, less than two hours from Long Beach Island will bring more interest to the event.  In the spirit of the game, Super Plunge organizers are urging loyal plungers to start planning your teams and sponsors to make this one for the record books.

- Since the chamber relocated from its emergency business recovery office at the Stafford Heritage Park back to its Ship Bottom Visitor Center 10 days after the storm, the message has been Open for Business. Sponsoring the first Small Business Administration Disaster Recovery Center in the state, reaching out for mentorship and best practices from the New Orleans Convention and Visitor Bureau, as well as facilitating and representing State and Federal funding assistance meetings, it has been as fast paced as the rebuild itself.

Hours after the storm, the chamber's website http://www.visitlbiregion.com/  has been updated with links and facts for rebuilding and recovery on the Surviving Sandy Newsletter, with info from consumer fraud tips, FEMA, SBA and NJ Business Action Center information. A Shop the Shore Holiday listing of regional businesses that are open for holiday shopping or offering gift certificates is also featured on line. A Know your Contractor listing was added to promote pre storm professional and commercial services, as well as updates and messaging going out in every medium. The LBI Region facebook, twitter and pinterest pages, LBI Regional Report video series and the launch of  weekly radio show on WBNJ 91.9FM  LBI Regional Radio Report airing Mondays at 8am and 6pm or online at http://www.wbnj.org/, which roll calls new business reopening each week, special events and featured a local business or community interview. The first two episodes have been Panzone Pizza and The Tuckerton Seaport. In addition, the Destination Marketing Director for the region and State Chair of the New Jersey Destination Marketing Organizations, Lori Pepenella has attended several meetings to encourage an increase in tourism marketing budget to help state counteract the post storm publicity that the entire shore line has received. "LBI is open, the mainland is open and this is our mantra everyday," stated Pepenella. A series of ads have been placed locally and out of state, as well as long standing initiatives such as February Chocolate Week, April 21 Wedding Road Show and June Art and Film Festivals are already being promoted. Business events are also being scheduled on a regular basis.

The Chamber, who will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary in 2014, has planned a dynamic breakfast meeting on January 8. Get a better insight into the local business and the Long Beach Island Region economy through Rockport Analytics tourism report that shows visitors generated over $1.2 Billion in area spending

The economic impact of Southern Ocean County was commissioned by the Long Beach Island Region Destination Marketing Organization on behalf of the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce. The research was conducted by Rockport Analytics an independent market research company. The goal of the study was to understand the full economic contribution resulting from visitation to the LBI region to county and the state.

Travelers spend $459 million on lodging, $296 million on food and beverage, $259 million on shopping and $115 million on entertainment and recreation. LBI Region tourism supports 14% of all employment to Ocean County with 83cents of each dollar spent in area by LBI Region visitors is kept within Ocean County.

Analyzing the direct, indirect and induced effects from visitor spending and deriving information DK Shifflet and Dun & Bradstreet reports, an accurate account of the tourism economic picture was developed to help local business, future investors in LBI Region and non profits have information that can help focus marketing and development efforts moving forward.

Zombies, Jersey Devil and old fashioned Autumn festival featuring 10 NJ wineries create the an extended season at the Jersey Shore this fall

The Long Beach Island Region Destination Marketing Organization and the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce proudly announce an October to remember for family and friends while visit LBI this fall. With Chowderfest Weekend bringing a close to this month on September 29 & 30, there is even more time for the tricks and treats that await October. Brand new this year is Operation Halloween and Zombie Outbreak on October 12 and 13. Operation Halloween offers something for all ages to enjoy this season, with scary and scare free zones. Four haunted attractions will be offered Friday October 12 from 3pm to Midnight and Saturday October 13 11am to Midnight at the Joseph A Citta Scout Camp 229 Brookville Road in Barnegat NJ. $10 admission ticket includes full access to the apocalyptic Zombie Outbreak, Ghost Manor Hayride and Mid Night Ghost Tour.  The Jersey Shore Council BSA will be offering Pumpkin Street Safe Trick or Treat to all visitors free of charge. 100% of the proceeds will benefit Rotary International programs and other local non profit groups. For a relaxed afternoon, meet you at the Autumn Wine Festival at Manahawkin Lake located off of Route 9 featuring wine tasting of more than 250 New Jersey wines from wineries such as Amalthea Cellars, Auburn Road Vineyard, Coda Rossa Winery, Cream Ridge Winery, DiMatteo Vineyard, Plagido's Winery, Renault Winery, Sharrott Winery, Tomasello Winery and Wagonhouse Winery.
