The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce welcomes another LBI focused business group to the barrier island. The new organization which has six mayors or municipal reps serving as part of the board will be needed to change the infrastructure for continued business success

The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce wishes the new board of directors of the LBI Chamber, the best of luck and looks forward to the six municipalities working towards the betterment of the business community and meeting in a public forum which is going to allow the discussion of island wide concerns regarding visitor enhancements that will help the businesses thrive. Unified Beach Badges, Island wide public daytime transportation, clearer signage, beautification of the island gateway, public art/culture projects; have been all ongoing topics that can be addressed by this new organization since it has streamlined speaking with each municipality separately. The Southern Ocean County Chamber, founded in 1914 and which will soon begin their celebration of a century of service,  joins other Long Beach Island Business groups to the opportunity in finding solutions to the long ignored topic of tax incentives for businesses that are open year round, tax credits for landlords who allow vacant store fronts to be utilized and the formula these six towns will use to fund long term advertising projects, which will begin to make Long Beach Island as competitive as so many other resort areas.

The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce is a regional organization, and has strong partnerships with the local chambers in its footprint such as Lacey Chamber of Commerce, Barnegat Chamber Of Commerce as well as formed close bonds with chambers from key visitors areas like Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Sussex County Chamber of Commerce. It looks forward to another partner to help advance tourism and business growth.

"The need for additional advertising and travel show support is evident after Sandy" says Lori Pepenella Destination Marketing Director of the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce and LBI Region Destination Marketing Organization. "Marketing costs more money than ever and the funds recieved from grants certainly cannot support the amount of recovery marketing needed, timing is great to introduce another resource which will raise funds to answer the growing demand to launch full out of area campaigns to bring people to Long Beach Island."

We Are LBI-viral video and website helps bring more attention to business community

Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce Marketing committee releases business focused WE ARE campaign, to highlight open businesses and extend a warm invitation make vacation plans.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mar. 18, 2013 - How committed are the Long Beach Island Region Businesses to their customers? That question was answered this past fall after Super Storm Sandy hit the community. While rebuilding both personally and professionally, the business owners and staff went above and beyond to help not only the physical recovery, but the emotional one by extending a sense of comfort and place to neighbors that faced uncertainty. The We Are LBI effort was created by a team of Chamber members who wanted to invite local business, who make up such an important part of the community, into the spotlight. In addition to creating a dedicated website, WEARELBI.com, a marketing campaign has been launched to bring well deserved focus and revamped energy to Shop and Support local, a mantra which has always encompassed the area.

Marketing committee Chairman Jeremy DeFilippis states "I've only just joined the Board of the Chamber as of 2013 so it took a little time to figure things out.  It became clear that there was some negative perspective on the Chamber's post-Sandy efforts within our community so I set out improve that by forming a Marketing Committee and rolling out a plan.  Even with a small budget to start, we can reach our members, community and tourists by spreading our new campaign.  I'm really looking forward to rolling out the rest of our plan as well as to creating a mid-to-long-term plan.  Please check out our website, www.WeAreLbi.com, which features a wonderfully well done video and help us spread our message that the LBI Region is open for business and ready for Summer 2013!"

By working parallel with ongoing, traditional Chamber programs, the We Are LBI movement will stimulate positive change in the LBI experience that both businesses and vacationers enjoy. Jeremy, who is co owner of Jetty Life,  worked closely with Chamber members  "Jovan Mena who created the website, Pat Sepanak who donated the domain names, as well as Drew Pearson of AD Pictures that created the video." To find out more about the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce, contact them at 609 494 7211 or stop into visitor center at 265 West Ninth Street Ship Bottom or on facebook as SO Chamber or LBI Region.

The Tenth Anniversary of St Francis Super Plunge will be celebrated next year on February 2, 2014. Start planning to be part of this tradition now!

Friends of Long Beach Island, the St Francis Community Center, Southern Regional Swim Team and the icy cold waters of February in the Atlantic Ocean have decided to take a pass this year and hold out for a Super Plunge for the ages in 2014. The popular winter event brings hundreds of plungers and spectators to the 48th Street Beach in Brant Beach every Super Bowl Sunday. The event was started by Brother Kevin along with swim coaches John Schultz and Billy Entriken to build support for the St Francis Community Center and the Southern Regional High School Swim Team.

In working with the Long Beach Township Beach Patrol, the "Plunge" brings many second home owners, residents, and cold weather enthusiasts to the beach at 1pm each Super Bowl Sunday for a winter fundraiser frolic. All are invited to the St Francis Community Center for coffee and snacks before returning to the excitement of the day. The excitement that NJ will be in the hub of the professional sports world is  starting to spread and the fact that next year's big game will be played at the Meadowlands, less than two hours from Long Beach Island will bring more interest to the event.  In the spirit of the game, Super Plunge organizers are urging loyal plungers to start planning your teams and sponsors to make this one for the record books.

For more information about the Super Plunge contact Mike Thompson, Recreation Coordinator at St Francis Community Center 609 494 8861 x105 or for the first cold weather game and how NJ is playing its part go to www.nynjsuperbowl.com . The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce and the Long Beach Island Region DMO proudly promote these great New Jersey events www.visitLBIregion.com
