GET FISHING- The LBI SPRING DERBY BEGINS APRIL 10

The Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Tournament presents it’s 19th Annual LBI Spring Derby beginning Saturday, April 10 at 12 am and running through June 27 at 6pm. The Long Beach Island “Spring Derby” Surf Fishing Tournament is a fun way for anglers to enjoy surf fishing the beaches of LBI. Once called Simply Bassin’, a bluefish division was added in 2018 due to popular demand. With the new name change, it is still  a simple and most importantly a low kill tournament format which DOES NOT have daily, weekly segment prizes. Only the top three striped bass and top bluefish are awarded by weight. Catches that do not beat the leader board can be release or responsibly harvested for a delicious dinner. There is a $20 registration fee.

For information about registration and weigh in, rules and fishing regulations, please go to the official site . Information regarding the derby details are available online.

For anglers who would like to participate in no kill tournament option there is a Spring Photo Challenge. In order to participate, the angle can capture a photo of their  best tournament fish or the perfect fishing moment during the 2021 event. They are invited to share it  on the Facebook Group “LBI Spring Surf Fishing Tournament” and INCLUDE YOUR TOURNAMENT BADGE NUMBER. One winner will be chosen each week. Out of the weekly winners, one grand prize winner will be chosen. Photos could be a catch and release fish, a sunrise/sunset or anything LBI and/or fishing related.

The Spring Derby is run by LBI Bait  & Tackle Shops and is supported by the Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic and The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce.
